Why Praise?

John 4:23-24  “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” (NKJ)

Philippians 3:3 For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh, (NKJ)

Revelation 4:11 “You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.” (NKJ)

Psalms 150:6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD! (NKJ)

Why We Stand to Sing

2 Chronicles 20:19 Then the Levites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with voices loud and high.(NKJ)

Revelation 7:9-10 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands,10 and crying out with a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” (NKJ) 

Lifting of Hands

Psalms 63:4 Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.(NKJ)

Psalms 134:2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD. (NKJ)

1 Timothy 2:8 I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting; (NKJ) 

Audible Praise

Psalms 33:1 Sing for joy in the LORD, O you righteous ones; praise is becoming to the upright. (NAS)

Psalms 98:4 Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth; break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises. (NKJ)

Psalms 103:1 Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! (NKJ)

Revelation 19:1 After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God! (NKJ)

Tongues and English

1 Corinthians 14:14-15 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. (NKJ) 

Why Dance?

Psalms 30:11-12 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, 12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever. (NKJ)

Psalms 149:3 Let them praise His name with the dance; let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp. (NKJ)

Psalms 150:4-6 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! 5 Praise Him with loud cymbals; praise Him with clashing cymbals! 6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD! (NKJ)

Why Prophesy?

Amos 3:8 A lion has roared! Who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken! Who can but prophesy? (NKJ)

1 Corinthians 14:1-5 Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy… But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men. 4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; … (NKJ)

1 Corinthians 12:10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. (NKJ)

1 Thessalonians 5:19-20 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. (NKJ)

Acts 2:17-18 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. 18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. (NKJ) 

Why Pray & Praise all at once?

Acts 4:24 So when they heard that, they raised their voice to God with one accord and said: “Lord, You are God, who made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them, (NKJ)

Psalms 47:1 Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph! (NKJ)

Psalms 66:1 Make a joyful shout to God, all the earth! (NKJ)

Psalms 100:1 Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! (NKJ)

Matthew 21:9 Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Hosanna in the highest!” (NKJ) 


Acts 16:22-26 and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods. …they threw them into prison,…But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, … Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. (NKJ)

2 Chronicles 20:21-22…, he (Jehoshaphat) appointed those who should sing to the LORD, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying: “Praise the LORD, for His mercy endures forever.” 22 Now when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated. (NKJ)
